Pt-Catchment Using Pd/Au Alloys: Effect of Enhanced Diffusion

We have studied a series of Pd/Au alloys as Pt-catchment materials, both in lab-scale experiments and an industrial ammonia oxidation plant. Our focus has been on how bulk Pt diffusion affects grain reconstruction (91/9 50/50 at. %) during Pt-catchment, performed by studying polycrystalline (as produced) quasi-monocrystalline (preannealed vacuum) wires. The is reduced when alloying Pd with Au, it almost absent for (50/50 %). For all Pd-containing samples structure, the restructuring limited short (<20 days) laboratory but present 5 month experiment. Notably, alloy shows low degree mechanism discussed, along role Kirkendall effect internal porosity wire restructuring.
